C-Frame Segment Lifting Beam Job Report (PDF) –

Development and design of an innovative C-frame segment lifting beam that does not require tie-down bars in the segment. The frame slides onto the segment and grabs it with hydraulic jacks. Additional hydraulic jacks control the longitudinal and transverse segment slopes to permit precise matching with the previously installed segment. Maximum segment weight is 82.5 tons, maximum cross slope is +/- 7.7% and the maximum longitudinal slope is +/- 5%. The weight of the C-frame is under 25,000 lbs. as was required by the contractor.
